We can prevent future pandemics by preventing human activities that can result in the transmission of disease between wildlife and people.
The “Preventing Future Pandemics Act of 2020” prohibits the import, export, and sale of live wildlife for the purpose of human consumption as food or medicine and closes all live wildlife markets for that purpose in the United States. This bipartisan bill is a crucial step toward drastically reducing the risk of a future zoonotic disease outbreak like COVID-19, which resulted from our exploitation of wildlife.
