On its way out the door, the Trump Administration enacted a series of changes that make protecting endangered and threatened plants, fish, and animals profoundly more difficult.
Among the changes are revisions that make the process for protecting lands and waters needed by endangered species more burdensome; the prioritization of economic consideration in species protection decisions; limits on the ability of government officials to consider climate change impacts; and even a re-definition of the word “habitat.”
There is hope in a new administration but these changes will not be reversed without public pressure.
