Earth is still the only spot in the Universe we know that supports life. Not just life, but intelligent, self-aware life. Part of intelligence is recognizing that the only way we humans emerged from the explosion of life over time, and the only way we survive today, is by interacting with the great diversity of life in which we are immersed. Without that diversity, we would disappear. With intelligence and self-awareness comes responsibility. The impact and power of our species is obvious, looking back at our beautiful Earth from space. The responsible exercise of our intelligence and power mandates that we control our behavior in order to preserve the diversity of life on which we clearly depend.
