Kate Spade

Designer, Kate Spade New York

I was born in Missouri, home to the fat pocketbook and twenty-one other threatened and endangered species. I spent time traveling with my family and enjoying nature’s beauty throughout the world.[pullquote]Isn’t the world a more beautiful place with Blue whale blue, Pine Barrens tree frog green, Tennessee coneflower pink, and I’iwi bird red?[/pullquote]

I moved to New York City in 1986. Three years earlier, the fastest animal on the planet moved into this fast-paced city. Two endangered falcons, that can reach 200 mph in flight, made their home here. The falcons and I both thrived. While Kate Spade New York expanded, so did the falcons, and now I share this city with thirty-two of these incredible birds.

As a fashion designer, I am immersed in beauty, color, and pattern. I have always been inspired by the beauty in nature. Patterns, prints, colors, and textures have been a huge part of my designs since the beginning. Without certain species of wildlife, I can’t imagine I would be able to create my designs.

I want to live in a world where beauty, color, and pattern flourish. Isn’t the world a more beautiful place with Blue whale blue, Pine Barrens tree frog green, Tennessee coneflower pink, and I’iwi bird red? Don’t we need ocelot spots, holiday darter stripes, staghorn coral curls, and California tiger salamander polka dots? I think so.
